Deadline nears for European PVPMC Workshop abstracts

The deadline for 2025 European Photovoltaics Performance Modeling Collaborative Workshop
presenter abstracts is June 15, 2025. The popular workshop will be held in Ayia Napa,
Cyprus, Oct. 29 – 31, 2025.

Co-organized by Sandia National Laboratories, EPL Technology Frontiers Ltd., and the
Phaethon Centre of Excellence at the University of Cyprus, this two-day workshop will
examine the technical aspects of PV module and system performance, including performance
modeling, analytics, digitalization and grid integration challenges and solutions.

Organizers are soliciting technical presentation proposals from the community. Interested stakeholders with modeling approaches, new data or other interesting results to share, please consider submitting a short abstract describing the presentation.

Below are suggested areas of interest:

  1. Solar resource and system modeling
  • Solar resource modeling, assessment and input data quality
  • PV performance modeling, including bifacial and tracking systems
  • PV module characterization techniques
  • Curtailment modeling and PV + BESS integration
  • Modeling approaches for expected energy yield

2. Performance monitoring and operational analytics

  • Performance monitoring and diagnostics
  • Key Performance Indicators, capacity testing and performance verification
  • Analysis of power plant underperformance
  • O&M analytics, including prognostics
  • Application of machine learning and artificial intelligence in preconstruction and
    operational phases

3. Digitalization, interoperability and standardization

  • Software and data interoperability
  • Digitalization of PV systems and asset portfolios
  • Lack of standardization in monitoring, reporting and data exchange

4. Regional grid integration issues

  • Modeling PV performance in island and grids with limited hosting capacity
  • Grid integration challenges specific to Europe and MENA
  • Interaction of performance models with curtailment and dispatch strategies
  • System-level modeling of high-penetration PV scenarios

Technical abstracts should be a maximum of 300 words and include one figure. Please provide a title, author list, the organization’s name and a brief technical description of the contribution. Submit the abstract at: https://forms.gle/PXvRCFh2RF1tx3Gw7 by June 15, 2025.

All presentations must be technically focused.

The 2025 European PVPMC Workshop will cover all of the PV performance modeling topics
stakeholders have come to expect while also focusing on solar energy integration challenges
and solutions facing island grids.

The PV Performance Modeling Collaborative works to improve the accuracy and technical
rigor of PV performance models and analyses.

Sandia National Laboratories’ Photovoltaic Solar Energy program works with U.S. industry
partners studying systems performance, reliability and degradation; new module
architectures; as well as materials and components in racking designs, power electronic
systems and anti-soiling and anti-reflective coatings.
