Vehicle Technologies

Sandia’s vehicle research supports electrification technologies, automation, and advanced combustion technologies for hard-to-electrify transportation modes.

Advanced combustion engine research at Sandia emphasizes the use of optical and laser diagnostics to discover fundamental processes that lead to increased engine efficiency and reduced emissions.

Our battery research enhances battery safety, battery diagnostics, and abuse testing to achieve battery systems that are safe by design. We develop wide bandgap electronic materials and devices with high efficiency and power density for electric drivetrain power components. We also provide tools that accelerate the safe and cyber-secure deployment of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
