With Sandia’s energy storage program and other national laboratories, the DOE Office of Electricity Energy Storage Program recently held its annual meeting and peer review, showcasing federally funded research meeting near- and long-term needs of the nation’s electrical grid. This event serves as a critical platform for National Lab experts, industry leaders, and DOE staff to exchange ideas and collaborate on energy storage technologies and systems to stabilize, optimize, and grow the grid.
Research presented at the event highlighted energy storage advancements, resources, and tools that span analytics, battery chemistry, materials science, experimental testing and validation, and other vital focus areas to enhance grid reliability and resilience. Following remarks by Office of Electricity Assistant Secretary Katie Jereza, the discussions reflected the opportunity, importance, and urgency of continued technological innovation, maturation, and deployment that the program supports.
