Measurement and Assessment for Novel Technologies in Instrumentation and Sensing (MANTIS)

A long pipe extends along a dessert road.

The Measurement and Assessment for Novel Technologies in Instrumentation and Sensing (MANTIS) testbed, is a 1000-foot horizontal facility designed to replicate typical well conditions for carbon sequestration, oil and gas, and geothermal applications. Developed under the TotalEnergies Downhole Wireless Acoustic Powering and Communication project, the facility features grouted casing and access zones with mobile offices at both ends, enabling comprehensive evaluation of tools and sensors at the wellhead and “downhole.” This effort was funded by TotalEnergies and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office.
