Biography

Tommy Herges leads instrumentation development activities for wind plant field campaigns in the Wind Energy Technologies Department at Sandia National Laboratories. He has been a member of the Wind Energy Technologies department since 2013 where he has worked on advanced laser velocity measurements and processing methods to analyze the flowfield through wind plants. Specifically, his efforts include measuring and analyzing wind turbine wakes for wind plant model validation, developing data quality control and assurance methods, and image processing-based wake tracking methods for flowfield decomposition and analysis. Tommy’s research interests include experimental fluid dynamics, remote sensing instrumentation, and image processing. He received his BS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign in 2008, and his PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign in 2013, working with Craig Dutton and Greg Elliott.
