Motes Controls Engineer BiographyAustin (Gerrit) Motes provides engineering support to multiple projects across the Wind Energy Design and Experimentation and Water Power Technologies Departments at Sandia National Laboratories. While he specializes in dynamics and controls, Gerrit has experience with engineering change management, test and acceptance, electromechanical sensors and actuators, microcontrollers and system integration. Prior to receiving his master’s degree, Gerrit worked for a nuclear parts supplier and for Duke Energy within their Nuclear Energy sector. Gerrit holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University and is a registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina and Colorado. In his free time, Gerrit enjoys contributing to open-source development projects, amateur radio, astrophotography, and backpacking.
