Biography

John Hewson is the technical lead of physics model development for reacting thermal-fluid applications at Sandia. As the technical lead, he manages relations with internal and external customers to ensure predictive modeling capabilities meet customer and program needs. Along with his technical priorities, he regularly mentors users of predictive modeling capabilities and guides them in proper application.

Johns’ recent research areas include predicting and mitigating thermal runaway in lithium-ion battery systems, aerosol-flame interactions, soot-radiation interactions in fires, electrochemistry of batteries in varying thermal environments, efficient dewatering of algae and integrated recovery of biomass nutrients.
