U.S. Department of Energy unveils the Inclusive Energy Innovation Prize

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) recently launched the Inclusive Energy Innovation Prize aimed at funding activities related to climate and clean energy that support, build trust, and strengthen relationships and partnerships with disadvantaged communities.

As part of the effort, those working with the department were invited to share their vision for a just and equitable clean energy future. Inspired by the call, researchers studying climate and clean energy technologies at Sandia responded.

The Inclusive Energy Innovation Prize, which promises to deliver 40% of climate investment benefits to disadvantaged communities and, at the same time, inform equitable research, development, and deployment within DOE, corresponds with President Biden’s Justice40 Initiative.

Specifically, the prize seeks to enable and enhance business and technology incubation, acceleration, and other community-based and university-based entrepreneurship and innovation in climate and clean energy technologies.

To apply for funding, Phase One submissions are due February 25, 2022. Learn more, share your vision, or watch the participant webinar.
