Sandia to take part in renewed consortium to develop roll-to-roll processes and reduce the cost to manufacture electrolyzers and fuel cells April 4, 2024 9:30 am Published by Mattie Hensley As part of the recently highlighted Roll-to-Roll (R2R) Consortium, Sandia will contribute expertise in fabrication processes and computing to advance manufacturing processes for hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. Specifically, Sandia research will focus on direct-write ink formulation and coating process optimization for membranes. Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office and led by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the consortium specifically aims to “advance efficient, high-throughput, and high-quality manufacturing processes to accelerate domestic manufacturing and reduce the cost of durable, high-performance fuel cell and electrolyzer systems.” High-throughput manufacturing is critical for supporting market acceleration of clean hydrogen technologies.
