The First EPRI-Sandia Symposium on Secure and Resilient Microgrids Concludes

On August 29-31, 2016, Sandia National Laboratories and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) held the first annual Microgrid Systems Symposium in Baltimore, MD that attracted about 100 attendees from other U.S. Department of Energy national laboratories, U.S. Department of Defense laboratories, utilities, industry, and government agencies. The event was uniquely focused on several technical challenges in commercial and military microgrids; addressing their design, system analysis, and grid integration. The symposium covered state of the art design and operational tools, methods, standards, and explored research and development needs for secure and resilient microgrids. It addressed specific grid integration and control issues when operating in grid connected and islanded modes and identified lessons learned and research gaps that need to be addressed to further improve microgrid designs and evaluations in the future.
