Sandia Energy > Programs > Renewable Energy > Photovoltaics > Staff Bios > Bruce King, Ph.D. Dr. Bruce King Materials Science, Systems Research Analyst Dr. Bruce King is a systems research analyst in the Photovoltaics (PV) and Materials Technology Department at Sandia National Laboratories. He has served as technical director of the Photovoltaics Systems Evaluation Lab (PSEL) since 2011. His current research interests include PV module and system characterization methods, PV performance models, and reliability. Dr. King’s career has spanned several different engineering disciplines ranging from processing and characterization of structural ceramics to systems engineering of commercial additive manufacturing equipment. He has 28 years of combined experience in university, national lab and industry research. He spent 11 years in industry, where for six years, he was R&D director of the Aerosol Jet Print division of Optomec. While at Sandia, he has served as Principal Investigator for eight projects funded through EERE-SETO. His current responsibilities include that of PI for a project focused on field performance and degradation of PV modules, and as DuraMat Consortium Capability Lead for Field Deployment. He has authored 70 publications and holds 42 patents. Dr. King received his BS in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Alabama – Birmingham and his MS and PhD degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan.
