Overview paragraph – Sandia National Laboratories has worked in the High Arctic for over 20 years, supporting research in Arctic conditions to provide information that assists with critical decisions. Such work includes research and development that uses available clean renewable energy systems; analyzes linkages between environmental changes, economic development, increased human activity, and security capabilities; and improves domain awareness with new sensor technologies, drones, and satellites.

Sandia also partners with other organizations to address the complicated issues facing the Arctic, including high-fidelity modeling of environmental changes and impacts on Arctic infrastructure, security, and global systems. Utilizing these resources in the rapidly changing Arctic not only allows Sandia’s capabilities to enhance energy and security for the Arctic, but also for the nation as a whole.
