In industry, cement is a barrier that is critical to the performance of a wellbore. However, cement is vulnerable to damage. Ensuring wellbore integrity requires lifetime monitoring of cement integrity, especially when the well is in service, not just after cement jobs or during work overs.
Cement quality monitoring is typically performed just following cement emplacement and curing, and sporadically, if at all, during wellbore use in production, injection, or monitoring. Multiple casing strings with cement are difficult to examine and interpret. We want to discover how long term, continuous monitoring of wellbore structural health can be accomplished as safely, efficiently, and economically as possible.
