CHAMA, the Sandia-developed Python package which can optimize sensor placement, is now available for download.

Continuous or regularly scheduled monitoring can quickly identify changes in the environment. However, even with low-cost sensors, only a limited number of sensors can be deployed. The physical placement of deployed sensors, sensor technology, and operating conditions, can significantly impact the performance of a monitoring strategy.

CHAMA uses mixed integer linear programming to determine the best location and technology for a sensor network. Example applications include optimizing sensor networks for oil and gas emissions, environmental monitoring, seismic or non proliferation monitoring, and even asset protection and surveillance.
