Sandia’s water power researchers will participate in the 2018 Waterpower Week in Washington, DC to discuss the issues impacting the hydropower and marine energy industry. Waterpower Week includes three conferences: NHA’s Annual Conference, International Marine Renewable Energy Conference (IMREC), and Marine Energy Technology Symposium (METS). The event highlights perspectives on the role of hydro, explores issues affecting hydro and marine resources, and helps participants develop a future game plan to meet challenges and ensure the future sustainability of the hydro and marine industry. Sandia will be hosting two stakeholder’s meetings after the Waterpower Week events scheduled for Wednesday, May 2, 2018: 2nd Marine Hydro Kinetic Environmental Compliance Cost Reduction Strategies Workshop and METS Advanced WEC Dynamics and Control Workshop.

Scheduled Workshops

2nd Marine Hydro Kinetic Environmental Compliance Cost Reduction Strategies Workshop

May 2, 2018
1:00pm – 2:30pm
South American Room, Capital Hilton
1001 16th Street NW, Washington, DC

Description:

Over the past year, the team has continued to interview regulators and developers and collect quantitative and qualitative data from marine hydro kinetic (MHK) projects across the U.S. including from other ocean and energy industries (e.g. oil and gas, wind, etc.).

Recently, the team has concentrated on analyzing quantitative information gathered regarding the studies completed, costs incurred, and funding sources during the licensing and permitting process. The project team is excited to share the most recent analysis and graphics that incorporate the findings. We look forward to your review and feedback of the findings and to begin to explore cost reduction strategies that could be helpful for permitting MHK projects.

METS Advanced WEC Dynamics and Control Workshop

May 2, 2018
1:00-2:30 pm
Senate Room, Capital Hilton
1001 16th Street NW, Washington, DC
