Four innovations from Sandia’s Energy programs have been named as R&D100 award finalists. R&D100 awards recognize that the technology has “competed against other new technologies in open competition,” according to the R&D website. The finalists include Sandia’s Microgrid Design Toolkit, Ultra-Wide-Bandgap Power Electronics, the SolidSense Gas Analyzer, and a control System for Active Damping of Inter-Area Oscillations.

Ultra-Wide-Bandgap Power Electronics

Control System for Active Damping of Inter-Area Oscillations
The product is a control system to increase damping of inter-area oscillations. This will enhance power grid reliability, leading to higher power transfers.
