Dr. Bai An from AIST visited Sandia’s Livermore site during the week of May 28. This international collaboration is working to understand the atomic-level processes of hydrogen embrittlement in steels, with a particular focus on stainless steels. Dr. An is an internationally recognized expert on scanning probe microscopy, such as atomic force microscopy and scanning tunneling microscopy, and regularly visits Sandia-California to promote the collaboration, with the intent of influencing the harmonization of international codes and standards for hydrogen.
Chris San Marchi was invited and visited AIST in March for two weeks as a visiting researcher as part of the AIST–Sandia-California collaboration. The DOE EERE Fuel Cell Technologies Office funds Sandia’s participation in this collaborative research project.
