Sandians Dhruv Bhatnagar (in Sandia’s Electric Power Systems Research Dept.) and Abbas Akhil and Georgianne Huff (both in Sandia’s Energy Storage Technology and Systems Dept.) participated on the New Mexico Renewable Energy Storage Task Force over the last few months of 2013.
During New Mexico’s 2013 Legislative Session, the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD) was tasked with convening a working group and developing a report for the Legislature’s Interim Science, Technology, and Telecommunications Committee that inventories major existing federal and state renewable-energy storage policies and regulations and develops legislative and regulatory recommendations and alternatives that can incentivize renewable-energy storage technologies and infrastructure development to benefit New Mexico, with the recommendations drawing on successful planning practices.
The Task Force reviewed, discussed, and debated all the information and ideas presented during four meetings in July and August to develop a written report with an emphasis on New Mexico’s needs and regulatory and business climate.
