Sandia/EPRI 2014 PV Systems Symposium (May 5-7, 2014)

Sandia National Laboratories and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) are delighted to host this symposium on technical issues related to PV systems and technologies. Core areas of focus will include PV performance modeling, distribution hosting capacity and screening methods, component reliability, as well as data-driven strategies for performing economically efficient system upkeep. View Symposium Description

May 5th and 6th Location: Biltmore Hotel in Santa Clara, CA  |  May 7th Location: EPRI Headquarters in Palo Alto, CA

Monday, May 5th

3rd PV Performance Modeling Workshop
Location: Biltmore Hotel, Santa Clara, CA
Description: This one-day workshop will begin with a technical overview of performance modeling methods and models.  It will then focus attention on three specific modeling topics: modeling plane-of-array irradiance, module performance characterization data sources, and inverter performance modeling.  An evening session will provide system model developers and technology companies providing services related to PV performance prediction an opportunity to present or demonstrate the latest improvements to their modeling tools and services.

Tuesday, May 6th

PV Distribution System Modeling Workshop
Location: Biltmore Hotel, Santa Clara, CA
Cost $100
Description:
This one-day workshop, hosted by Sandia National Laboratories, the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, will cover best practices to facilitate integration of PV into the power system. Topics will include technical and policy updates for current interconnection and screening practices and technical dive into the use of advanced inverters to mitigate system impacts.

Wednesday, May 7th

PV Operations and Maintenance Workshop
Location: EPRI, Palo Alto, CA
Cost: $100
Description:  This one-day workshop will focus on O&M activities, and include updates on current O&M reliability efforts aimed at both improving PV system performance and reducing the levelized cost of solar electricity.

Wednesday, May 7th

EPRI Smart Inverter Workshop
Location: Biltmore Hotel, Santa Clara, CA
Cost: Free
Description: This workshop has been added to the PV System Symposium proceedings and will focus on the latest research activities undertaken by the Electric Power Research Institute to demonstrate standard smart inverter functions. Reviewed analysis is tied to the Department of Energy (DOE) Smart Inverter Demonstration Project.

Additional Details

This free, one-day meeting will cover:

  • Distribution modeling to understand the impact of smart inverter functions on demonstration feeders,
  • Lab testing of standard smart inverter functions,
  • Plans for field demonstrations, and
  • Ongoing standards and state-level activities relative to smart inverters.

** ASTM International subcommittee E44.09 Photovoltaic Electric Power Conversion will be holding a meeting for their WK43549 Practice for Installation Commissioning Operation and Maintenance Process task group on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 8:00am until 1:00pm at EPRI Headquarters.  Click here for more information.
