Providing the Right Data, Analyses, and Simulations

Sandia has developed and fielded advanced sensors, such as Raman lidars; installed and monitored other institutions’ instrumentation; and advanced the state of the art by using unmanned aerial systems for climate measurement. In addition to expanding Atmospheric Radiation Monitoring program site measurement/monitoring capabilities, we are enhancing Sandia’s capability to understand the black carbon lifecycle and for methane detection and attribution in the Arctic environment. Sandia’s extensive expertise in accounting for uncertainties in high-performance computing models removed the largest bottleneck in traditional atmospheric models, allowing for faster simulation at higher resolutions to better assess climate-change impacts on extreme weather.
