Dave Minster manages the Wind Energy Technologies Department where he is responsible for overseeing wind power research, development and test activities for the lab. The department conducts applied research to increase the viability while decreasing the cost of wind energy technology. Dave’s team is focused on improving wind turbine performance, efficiency and reliability by developing enhanced blades and rotors.
Mr. Minster has been in the Wind Department since April 2012 and has over 30 years of leadership/management experience. He joined Sandia in 2005 after retiring as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his current position, Dave spent four years as manager of Sandia’s Energetic Threats and Training Department and nearly two years at Sandia leading intelligence projects for multiple national intelligence agencies.
Dave holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from Montana State University, a Master’s degree in Geodetic Science from the Ohio State University, and a Master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.
Mr. Minster has received a Certificate of Appreciation from President George W. Bush for his military service and has received dozens of military awards, including the Defense Superior Performance Medal, the Bronze Star, 7 Meritorious Service Medals, and 4 Commendation/Achievement Medals.
