Increasing the Scaled Wind Farm Technology Facility’s Power Production

During the period of February 24–March 7, Scaled Wind Farm Technology (SWiFT) facility turbines were operational—producing power and collecting data for the longest period to date. On March 5, both turbines produced rated power of 200 kW without any issue. A snapshot of 184 kW is shown in the figure.

To date, the turbines have been running with supervised operation as they compile hours of runtime and data, proving the variable speed operation. The turbines will begin 24/7 operation after data has been collected and verified across all of the controller’s transitions and operational states in FY14.

In addition, new sensors continue to come online including the high-precision absolute yaw encoder which is a critical sensor for the collection of turbine-to-turbine interaction data.
